Flooded Minot residents asked to conserve water

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Minot residents are being urged to conserve water after numerous water main breaks.

Public Works Director Alan Walter tells the Minot Daily News that the problem is related to Souris River flooding but the exact cause behind the breaks isn't known. He says it's difficult for city crews to find the breaks because many are under 10 feet of water.

Officials realized there was a problem when a storage tank stopped filling. The city planned to put in a temporary water line to connect to the Northwest Area Water Supply project after getting approval from the State Water Commission on Monday.
