FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The National Weather Service says a Memorial Day windstorm that hit the Fargo-Moorhead region included three tornadoes.

The storm that went through more than a dozen counties stretching from southeast North Dakota to northwest Minnesota knocked out power to nearly 47,000 people. North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm says damage claims in the Fargo area total more than $4.2 million so far.

Meteorologist Greg Gust says the storm might have spawned several more tornadoes as it moved into Minnesota.
