Night boating banned on Missouri River at Bismarck

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Night boating has been banned on the Missouri and Heart rivers in the Bismarck-Mandan area.

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department put the sunset-to-sunrise boating ban in place at the request of Burleigh and Morton counties. Department Director Terry Steinwand says it's a precautionary safety measure.

Law enforcement and emergency personnel are exempt.

The Missouri River is flooding in the Bismarck area because of record water releases through river dams due to excessive spring snowmelt and rain. The Heart River empties into the Missouri in the area.
