Flooded Burleigh County issues burn ban

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Burleigh County authorities have implemented a burn ban in the midst of Missouri River flooding.

The ban is in place not because of dry conditions but because the flooding is limiting access for firefighters to some areas. Officials say fires also could threaten emergency levees.

No fireworks or open burning is being allowed. People who violate the ban could face a misdemeanor charge that carries a maximum punishment of 30 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
