Tornado touches down briefly in Luverne, N.D.

LUVERNE, N.D. (AP) — A tornado that briefly touched down near Luverne Monday night reportedly didn't cause any damage.

The National Weather Service says the twister was reported at 7 p.m. in a rural area of Steele County, about nine miles north of Luverne.

Mark Ewens, data manager at the weather service in Grand Forks, told the Grand Forks Herald that a small area of Steele County also received 4.5 inches of rainfall.

A funnel cloud was reported at 7:06 p.m. three miles east-southeast of Cooperstown, and another was reported at 7:28 p.m. one mile west of Grand Forks Air Force Base.

An off-duty weather service employee also reported winds of 65 mph that snapped off treetops two miles east of Gilby, in Grand Forks County.
