DL Schools website adds class photos from 1890s-present

The halls of Central have always been lined with photos of those who have graduated from Devils Lake High School — and now those same pictures are just a click away.

On the Devils Lake Public Schools website, dlschool.org, users can click the 'class photos' option on the left side of the screen and access class pictures from 1893 to the present time.

Superintendent Steve Swiontek said they are missing a few years from the turn of the century and they would appreciate any help the public can offer.

“The Lake Region Heritage Center is helping us find some of these pictures,” he said. “If anyone has any of these pictures at home in their records, we would appreciate the opportunity to scan the picture and would return it immediately.”

The missing years are: 1898, 1899, 1900, 1901, 1903, 1904, 1911, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917, 1918 and 1919.

Swiontek said he read about other schools in the state doing similar projects and he thought it would be a great addition to the DLPS site for two reasons — it would allow alumni to access the photos whenever they want and it would ensure the safety of the photos in case of fire or other disaster.

“Now they're on the internet forever,” he said.

Swiontek said it took a couple of months to complete the project and they are excited to unveil it to the public.

“We just want people to know it's there on our website,” he said. “We want people to use it and enjoy it.”
