MEDINA, N.D. (AP) — A memorial planned in the North Dakota town of Medina to those who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks will feature a beam from the destroyed World Trade Center.

The Jamestown Sun reports that Medina firefighter Darrell Graf secured the beam that had spent years in a New York airport hangar.

The piece of steel is now in Eureka, S.D., where firefighter and artist Allen Heinrich is etching designs on it. It's to be delivered later this month to Medina, where it will be mounted on a chunk of granite, likely in a city park.

A memorial at the International Peace Garden north of Dunseith also has steel from the World Trade Center.
