ND winter wheat estimate changes little over month
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The expected size of North Dakota's winter wheat crop has changed little over the month.
The Agriculture Department says winter wheat production is forecast at 16.4 million bushels, down 2 percent from the May 1 estimate and down 7 percent from 2010. The expected average yield of 53 bushels per acre is 2 bushels below last year's record.
Winter wheat is a minor crop in North Dakota, which leads the nation in the production of both spring wheat and durum wheat.
