The boats head into the Spirit Lake Marina for weigh-in on the final day of the 2010 Spirit Lake Walleye Classic.

The 11th annual Spirit Lake Marina Walleye Classic will be held Saturday and Sunday just south of Devils Lake.

The tournament will be preceeded by a rules meeting Friday evening. The casino ballroom will open at 4:30 p.m. for registration, followed by a pre-tourney dinner at 5:30 p.m. and a rules meeting at 6 p.m.

A list of entries has been compiled, but most of the entries are expected to come in at Friday evening festivities.

Already on the list of competitors are Ben Mack and Matt Taylor, last year’s defending champions.

There is a $10,000 guaranteed prize for first place.

Competition will run Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Tournament director Dan Lohnes  says anglers cannot go under the Highway 57 bridge and will not be allowed to remove their boats from the water anywhere.

He also doesn’t want anybody south of Highway 19 and will allow fishermen to go as far as the Minnewaukan Flats.

The order of position for fishermen will be determined by their order of entry.

Thus, the first one out Saturday will be assigned the final spot Sunday.

Special prizes will be awarded for the largest walleye caught during the tournament.
