Valley City properties to get flood buyout offers

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — The owners of seven Valley City properties damaged by flooding in 2009 should soon be getting buyout offers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Lake Agassiz Regional Council Director Irv Rustad tells the Valley City Times-Record that FEMA has authorized about $515,000 for the project, most of it federal money. He says each property will have two appraisals that will be averaged.

Homeowner Louise Broten moved to Bismarck because her home was unlivable. She says the buyout offers have been a long time in coming.
