Man sentenced for stealing from school district

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — A former business manager for the Pingree-Buchanan School District in southeast North Dakota has been sentenced to serve 45 days in jail for embezzling $19,000.

William Holtan, 44, of Kensal pleaded guilty to two counts of felony theft of property.

The Jamestown Sun reports that Holtan was accused of taking the money between March 2008 and March 2010. The theft was discovered in an audit done after he resigned.

Holtan was sentenced to a year and a month in prison with all but the 45 days suspended. He also must pay back the money.
