ND insurance commish: Consider flood insurance

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm is encouraging homeowners, renters and business owners to consider buying a flood insurance policy.

Flooding is likely for many rivers in the state this spring, and Hamm says there is a 30-day waiting period before a flood insurance policy kicks in. He says people shouldn't wait until it's too late.

Flooding isn't covered under typical homeowner policies. Hamm says there are several insurance companies in North Dakota that offer flood policies through the National Flood Insurance Program.
