WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The executive director of the Bonanzaville museum and historical village at West Fargo has been fired, though not because of poor performance.

Board President Syl Melroe tells The Forum newspaper that director Steve Backsen was let go Tuesday for budget reasons. Melroe says Backsen was paid about $50,000 per year, and his replacement likely is to be hired on a part-time and interim basis.

Backsen declined comment.

Bonanzaville is operated by the Cass County Historical Society.
