Minot police want better guns

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The new sheriff in North Dakota's Ward County wants his deputies better-armed.

The Minot Daily News reports that the County Commission has blessed Sheriff Steve Kukowski's payroll deduction plan to help officers spread out the cost of what he considers adequate firearms over a year's time.

Kukowski says he wants to phase out revolvers as weapons. Most handguns now carried by law officers are semi-automatics.
