FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Fargo is planning a structural shakeup.

The diocese is proposing to combine parishes, close one church, move another and open two schools. It's in response to a study that found increasing population growth to the south and west of Fargo.

Officials tell The Forum newspaper there is no specific timeline, but work could begin in the fall if the plan goes through. Informational meetings are planned for parishioners and parish staff next month.

Monsignor Joseph Goering, vicar general of the diocese, says the diocese last went through a round of parish consolidations between 2004 and 2006, when many rural eastern North Dakota churches were slated for closure.
