BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A proposal to deter bullying in North Dakota's schools is getting its first review.

Belcourt Sen. Richard Marcellais (MAR'-sell-ayz) is presenting the bill to the Senate Education Commission on Wednesday.

It says the state school superintendent should draw up a model anti-bullying policy for North Dakota's local schools to use in drafting their own plans.

The bill also requires the governor to declare the fourth Wednesday in January as "No Name Calling Day."

Marcellais says the proposal will promote tolerance among students.

His bill is one of at least three anti-bullying measures that the Legislature will consider.
