Wintry weather hits the Dakotas

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is putting a damper on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in parts of the Dakotas.

The National Weather Service says a winter weather advisory is in effect Monday for much of the two states.

Not much snow is expected, but some areas have blowing snow and icy conditions. North Dakota's Transportation Department issued a travel alert for motorists in the southwest and southeast portions of the state through the morning.

Vehicle crashes the past two days have been reported from Dickinson in North Dakota to Sioux Falls in South Dakota. Law enforcement officials in southwest North Dakota reported responding to more than two dozen accidents on Sunday.
