ND soybean, canola, lentil crops set records

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota farmers produced record soybean, canola and lentil crops last year.

The Agriculture Department released its annual crop production summary on Wednesday. The report estimates the North Dakota soybean crop at 138 million bushels, 19 percent above the 2009 production, and canola at just under 2.2 billion pounds, up 64 percent over the year. Lentil production last year reached 3.93 million hundredweight, up from 2.54 million the previous year.

North Dakota corn production was pegged at 248 million bushels, up 24 percent from 2009 but 13 percent below the record set in 2008.

Production of sugar beets was up 18 percent and flaxseed was up 21 percent.

North Dakota production of dry edible peas was down 30 percent, and the oil sunflower crop was down 13 percent.
