For the second year in a row Maurices is hosting “Rescues and Runaways” in partnership with the ASPCA.

This year they’ve teamed up with a local organization, the Uffda Fund for Animals out of Cando to help raise awareness, hope and help for homeless pets during the month of September.

"This campaign is called Rescues & Runways and Maurices stores across the country are involved, in partnership with the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®)," explained Maurices store manager, Amanda Kenner. "It's a great way to increase awareness of the need for pet adoptions and to raise supplies and financial support for our local shelter."

People are invited to stop by Maurices to donate pet supplies or monetary gifts, with all donations going directly to Uffda Fund for Animals. As a thank you, Maurices will give supporters a coupon for 20 percent off one regular-priced item.

Maurices will also offer its exclusive Friends for Life charm in stores and online at www.maurices.com from now through October 31, or while supplies last. Half of the charm can be worn by the pet and the other half can be worn by the pet's owner or a furry friend. The Friends for Life charm is $5, with $2.50 from every sale going to the ASPCA to support its national programs.

About Uffda Fund

Named after a red tabby who was fostered by the Gibbens Vet Clinic in Cando when his family moved to Arizona. Uffda, at 18 or 19 years old, passed away after a long, happy life. His former owners, grateful that the clinic took such good care of their pet, gave a donation in his honor, thus the Uffda Fund was born.

The Uffda Fund is a tax exempt, non-profit organization, 501c that partners with PetFinders to make sure that lost or runaway pets find their forever homes.

There are “Spare Change Jars” in several places to help fund the group’s efforts.

They spay and neuter the animals they care for and work to find homes for pets.

“The big thing we need are foster homes, people who are willing to take a pet into their home and care for them until a forever home can be found,” said Shiela Rabe, one of the founders of the organization.

Based in Cando, ND they currently have seven pets in their shelter:

Sandy is a male, domestic medium hair orange tabby kitten.

Gracie is a domestic short-hair, gray young female cat.

Zan is a dachshund female puppy.

Synyster is young female black lab retriever.

Eddy is a domestic short-hair orange tabby young male.

Tippy is a beagle/spaniel mix male puppy.

Marti is a female Shih Tzu puppy.

“We have just received four six-week old kittens, two black with a little orange markings, a calico and a smoky gray male, they are going to need homes, too,” said Rabe.

For more information about these animals or to make a donation call 701-968-3383 or write to 420 Main St., P.O. Box 426, Cando, ND 58324.
