Puzzling activity kicks off ‘Shiverfest 2010’

Shiverfest, the Lake Region's annual winter festival, will be held in just two weeks, which means the Devils Lake Journal's word search contest is about to begin.

The format will be the same as last year, with a different word search puzzle printed each day in the paper, starting on Monday, Feb. 8 and running for two weeks.

Readers are asked to return the completed puzzle to the Journal office or one of the featured businesses. The entries must be received by 11 a.m. on the third business day after the publication of the puzzle.

Each puzzle that is complete and correct will be entered into a daily drawing for $15. An extra $10 will be added if the entry is dropped off and drawn at the business featured in that particular puzzle. All prizes will be awarded at the end of the contest.

Paula Ramsey, Advertising Manager at the Journal, said they decided to bring back the contest because of its popularity in the past.

“People really seemed to like it,” she said. “It's a fun thing to do on those cold winter days.”

Each valid entry will be included in the grand prize drawing at the end of the contest for a chance to win $350. Daily prize winners will also be included in the grand prize drawing.

“It's a chance for you to check out what the Devils Lake businesses have to offer — and you could win some money,” said Ramsey.

Complete contest rules and details will be included with the puzzle in Monday's paper.
