Fiddling teens to perform at Stump Lake

Staff reports
The “Fiddlin’ Friendzy” trio is comprised of sister and brother, Sadie and Jadan Sorenson, and their good friend and neighbor, Duran Vigesaa. Ethan Sorenson is on guitar.

The “Fiddlin’ Friendzy” group will perform at Stump Lake Village on July 3 at 7 p.m. in the Main Street Building.

“The Fiddlin’ Friendzy,” is a group of teen friends from West Fargo who just enjoy getting together to make music. The fiddlers are the brother and sister team of Jadan (16) and Sadie (15) Sorenson, and their good friend and neighbor, Duran Vigesaa (16).

The young group of fiddlers began playing together with ‘living room music’ when they were just 8 or 9 years old, providing great entertainment for friends and family. Upon encouragement from an older sister, they made their public debut three years ago by auditioning and playing for the NDSU Bison Brevities Talent Show.

They discovered that their music was appreciated by young and old alike when they captured the top awards at Bison Brevities for two years in a row, including audience choice and judges’ choice.

Since that time, they formed their “Fiddlin’ Friendzy” group and have played for numerous banquets, weddings, funerals, birthday parties and other events.

The teens play most of their music by ear, picking out the melodies and harmonies as they go.  They started their playing through instruction in Suzuki Violin from F-M local teacher Ann Schluter, and spent time jamming with experienced fiddlers at Bonanzaville to learn the old time fiddle tunes.  They have won top honors in several regional fiddle contests for their solo performances and duets.

In addition, they each play several different instruments besides their violins and have an amazing talent for creating their own harmony when playing or singing.

Backup music and support are provided by whomever is available among their older siblings. Other family members include older brother Ethan Sorenson on guitar, their father Aaron on string bass, and mom, Sherlene on keyboard.

Ice cream cones, lemonade, and popcorn will be served afterwards. A free-will offering will be taken for this event.

The event is sponsored by Nelson County Historical Society.

Fireworks will be featured at dusk,  sponsored by the Nelson County Park Board.
