2011 Farm Woman of the Year announced

Denise Vollrath of St. Thomas, ND was crowned the 2011 Farm Woman of the Year at the annual Agri-Women Spring Fling sponsored by the Lake Region Chapter of the ND Agri-Women.

The event was held June 13 at Lake Region State College in Devils Lake.

Denise operates a third generation family farming operation with her children Dalyn and Amber (Vollrath) Meyer.  Denise is involved in all operations of farm work including bookkeeping, planning decisions, operating equipment and of course, running for parts.  Additionally Denise is employed as a registered nurse at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital.   

Other candidates in this year’s event included Diane McDonald of Inkster, ND and Wanda Morstad of Fordville, ND.

Speaker for the event was ND Senator Joan Heckaman of New Rockford, ND who spoke on her work on the Agriculture and Education committees of the ND Legislature.   Janice Moen, President of the ND Agri-Women organization, was also present and reported on activities on both the state and national level.  Brenda Langerud, NDSU Extension Service/Ramsey County was MC with Carol Backstrom chairing this year’s Farm Woman of the Year contest.
