Lots of events in Lakota this weekend

The 49th annual Lakota Turkey Barbecue Days will be held this weekend, June 17-19.

This year's barbecue will include both turkey and pork, serving from 5-7 p.m. on Friday in the Lakota City Park. Other activities that evening include a variety show at 7:30 p.m. at the Lakota High School and a street dance with music by “Rhyme of Reason” from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

A full day of activities is planned for Saturday, including a 5K walk/run, high school tours, golf tournament, face painting, kiddie parade and city parade, ice cream social, car/bike show, inflatable games for children, scavenger hunt, bike fun run, airport hanger dedication, model airplane show, reunion dinner and battle of the bands.

On Sunday, activities will include a pancake breakfast, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus at the Lakota Community Center, followed by an all-faith worship service at Lakota Park at 10 a.m.

Plane rides will be offered all three days from the Lakota Airport. The event is hosted by Boyd Johnson and appointments are required, call (701) 740-3510 or (701) 741-1426.

A craft, quilters and antiques show will be held at the Lakota Community Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and open swimming and games will be featured at the Lakota Pool from 1-4 p.m. Concessions will also be available.

Other special events will include the “Rock Dogs Climbing Rock Wall & Mad Monkeys Bungee Jumpers” on Main Street Friday evening at 6 p.m. The event is sponsored by Hang Time Games.

On Saturday, the U.S. Air Force Security Forces and Working Dogs demo will be held at the airport from 1-3 p.m. and wheelchair races will be held at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center at 5 p.m.
