Legislative forum planned for region

A “Meet the Candidates Forum” is scheduled for next week.

The Devils Lake branches of AAUW (American Association of University Women) and BPW (Business and Professional Women) will again host a Meet the Candidates forum. The forum will be held Thursday, October 18 beginning at 7 pm in the Robert Fawcett Auditorium at Lake Region State College.

The two organizations have combined efforts several times during election years to host the educational event. The forum is intended to give voters the opportunity to become better informed about their choices and to be more involved in local and state government.

Members of the public will be able to meet and question the candidates who are running for public offices.  All candidates for both local and state races have been invited.   All candidates for the Ramsey County Commission – Joe Belford, Myrna Heisler, Bill Mertens, Mark Olson, Randy Schemionek and Mark Shipley – have confirmed that they will be in attendance. Brad Crabtree has stated that he, too, will attend.

During the forum each candidate will have the opportunity to make a statement after which the public may ask questions or may write down questions for the moderator to read.  Moderator for the forum will be Sharon Etemad, retired President of Lake Region State College.

The forum is open to all and offered free-of-charge.
