Brass Quintet blends color and sound; group to visit Devils Lake tomorrow

The Cooper Street Brass Quintet

The Copper Street Brass Quintet will be performing in Devils Lake as part of their 2009 North Dakota tour. The performance will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Robert Fawcett Auditorium on the campus of Lake Region State College.

The CSBQ will be performing a new program called “The Color Project,” a fascinating blend of music and color. As the quintet performs, they invite listeners to observe colors both on stage and in their programs — or as they call it, their “Color Palette.”

The colors will be a visual and conceptual compliment to their music, creating a complete audio-image experience for the audience.

Trumpeter Allison Hall said, “This show was modeled after our educational outreach program of the same name, where students draw or create art as a response to our music, so this will be fun to bring it to the concert hall.”

“We're thrilled to be performing this innovative program to the community of Devils Lake,” said trombonist Alex Wolff. “No other brass quintet in the country is doing anything like this.”

The group will perform original compositions as well as fresh arrangements and transcriptions for brass, and through unique staging, programming and visuals, the abstract is indeed real.

Tickets for the concert will be available at the door.

While in town, the CSBQ will also be visiting band students in Central Middle School and Devils Lake High School. The student program is sponsored by the Arts Council of the Lake Region.
