Ben Wolf made a name for himself last season by doing the things that win football games: Scoring touchdowns. While he scored touchdowns in a variety of ways, there is still one that has proved to be a little difficult.

“Kick return. That is the one that I haven’t done yet that I want to do,” said Wolf.

Mostly recognized for his offensive efforts and his dazzling touchdown runs, Wolf admitted that the best touchdowns come in other ways.

“There is nothing better than making a big interception. I like playing defense more. It gives me the chance to make more game changing plays, plus I get to hit people.”

Scoring touchdowns isn’t the only thing on his mind however. Wolf and his fellow teammates seem to have a little revenge on their mind.

“Beat Valley City.”

As soon as those words came out of Wolf’s mouth, about five of his teammates who were also around chimed in. Valley City, even though they are in a different conference this year, is the team to beat.

Valley City handed Devils Lake their only loss in the regular season last year, and it wasn’t pretty with Valley City winning 30-6.

If a win over Valley City can come in the season opener, it will definitely help Devils Lake reach what they are looking for.

“Winning the state championship. That is our ultimate goal.”
