Allard back and ready for action

With only one returning starter from last year’s linebacking corps, there are plenty of holes to fill. Senior David Allard is going to make sure that there is one less.

After injuring his MCL early in the season, Allard was able to make his way back and got to see increasing playing time towards the end of the season.

“I learned how aggressive you have to be,” said Allard about his playing experience. “I learned that you have to take a hit. I didn’t like getting hit at first, but it’s just something you have to get used to, and just go hit someone else instead.”

The playing time added with an impressive showing at the Valley City team camp this summer has the coaching staff and other players looking at Allard to be a standout at outside linebacker.

“I had about five tackles during one of our scrimmages and I could notice the improvements as we went along.”

And while Allard has learned to embrace the hitting on defense, he is starting to enjoy it at all times on the field.

A tight end on the offensive side of the ball, Allard knows his role.

“I enjoy blocking. I’m not to the guy to get the ball to on offense. I’ll go out there and block and hit people.”
