Here the normally elusive elk herd at Sullys Hill National Game Preserve are grazing near the entrance drive in the first wetlands area of the preserve.

After a spring, summer and fall filled with activities the final event, a ride through Sullys Hill National Game Preserve is planned for this evening, Oct. 5, leaving from the Visitors Center an hour before sunset, at 6 p.m.

The Friends of Sullys Hill have sponsored these events and provided someone to organize the evening, keeping track of the number of people who come to experience the wonders of fall and possibly view the elk herd during mating season as they bugle to potential mates.

Rides were provided four Thursdays in a row starting Sept. 21 where they experienced the largest number of people waiting for rides. One of the Friends of Sullys Hill taking names said that evening there were more than 120 people on four rides. Two wagons each provided space for 30 people, each ride guided by a member of the Friends of Sullys Hill to explain things along the way.

Tonight, who knows how many will show up? Get there early to ensure your space in one of the wagons.
