Celebrating women in agriculture
Over 100 women connected to agriculture gathered in the Memorial Building for the seventh annual Women in Agriculture’s Night Out.
The theme for the 2017 event was “The Root of Joy” as speaker Dawn Kaiser shared her insights into the importance of both joy and gratitude in women’s lives.
A social hour began the event allowing attendees to bid on silent auction items and purchase raffle tickets for numerous baskets - all donated by a long list of local merchants and organizations for the evening.
A meal, prepared by Aunt Janie’s catering service, was expertly served by the Devils Lake Dazzlers.
Proceeds from the event go to provide a scholarship for a woman who plans to pursue some form of higher education in an agriculture-related field. Brenda Langerud, Ramsey County Extension Agent presented two $1,000 scholarships to local women.
The recipients were MaKayla Heinz from Brocket, ND and Traci Lagein from Rocklake, ND.
Heinz is studying to become a crop and weed scientist. She was unable to attend Wednesday’s event, so her mother, Rita Heinz, accepted her scholarship for her and thanked everyone who made the grant possible.
Lagein is going into agriculture education and also thanked those attending the event and the committee who selected her for the scholarship.
Langerud explained there had been four excellent applicants this year and how Heinz and Lagein had been selected.
The committee for the Women’s Ag Night includes Breanna DeMarais, Shannon Teigen, Kathy Frelich, Lori Stubbe, Langerud, Doreen Webster, Connie Hanson, Nancy Kurtz, Kristi Matejeck, Wendy Frelich and many other volunteers.
