‘Elements’ is Devils Lake’s newest massage parlor
Nestled inside a building that makes up the historic downtown section of Devils Lake is the city's newest massage studio.
Elements Therapeutic Massage opened Feb. 1 and shares space with Adeline's Hair Styling at its location at 408 4th St. NE.
Elements owner Vickie Domres said the goal of her new business it to help clients relieve stress of everyday life through the timeless art of massage.
"The goal (of massage) is to achieve a balance," Domres said, "and to allow the client to feel the best they can."
Domres, a native of Wales, N.D. and a graduate of Langdon Area High School, earned her degree in massage therapy from the Minnesota School of Business in 2009 and received her national certification license the following year. She also has a degree in early childhood education and spent time working in a chiropractic office in Fargo before moving to Devils Lake and opening her new business.
Domres also stresses that massage is only a step in achieving the proper balance and that clients can also play a big role in continued healthy living.
"Maintaining is very important," she said. "Proper mechanics in everyday living is important, as is the need for plenty of water.
"Bodies can get run down pretty fast is we don't take care of our bodies," she added.
Domres said some of the things that can be done at home to assist in better conditioning is ice and lots of stretching.
"We all need those things if we want to see benefits," said Domres, who suggests a massage at least once a month for proper benefits.
Domres said she has always enjoyed massage and especially after she became pregnant in 2004.
"I was getting massages while I was pregnant and became convinced that (massage) was my calling," she said. "I love giving and receiving massages."
Elements has a tranquil relaxation room. Soft lights and soft music assists in the relaxation of clients, which currently averages about 15 per week, according to the owner
The new facility currently has one massage table, but plans call for the addition of another table specially designed for pregnant women.
Domres said her decision to launch her business in Devils Lake was an easy choice to make after spending time in the city as a former resident.
"I wanted to be in a smaller town," she explained. "I've always liked Devils Lake and once I made up my mind to open my business I was here one week later.
"(Devils Lake) is so relaxed and the people are more friendly," she added.
Elements is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Appointments can also be scheduled for Fridays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and by special appointments on Saturdays.
