New Rockford-Sheyenne/Maddock is back on top.
After being ranked No. 2 to start the season, the Rockets slid up to No. 1 in the latest poll released Wednesday by the NDAPSSA.
NR-S/M, the defending nine-man state champion, beat Cavalier 58-8 in its season opener on Friday. Senior quarterback Easton Simon had four touchdown passes in the win. The Rockets are coming off a 12-0 season where they never won a game by fewer than 30 points.
Last week’s No. 1, LaMoure-Litchville/Marion, won 58-28 over Hatton/Northwood in Week 1.
In the preseason poll, L-L/M received nine first-place votes compared to NR-S/M’s seven. This week, NR-S/M led the way with 10 first-place votes and 71 points overall. L-L/M slid down to No. 2 with no first-place votes and 66 points. Presumably, that means L-L/M received all 10 of the second-place votes.
The level of dominance the Rockets displayed in Week 1 was enough for the voters to make a pretty significant shift.
The 3-4-5 spots stayed the same in nine-man football, with the exception of Grant County/Flasher now being tied with No. 5 Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood.
In the Division A poll, also released Wednesday, Langdon Area/Munich came in at No. 2 for the second straight week. The Cardinals received six first-place votes and 66 points, up from last week’s two and 45, respectively.
LA/M won 34-6 over Oakes in its season opener. Quarterback Jax Johnson had three rushing and two passing touchdowns.
Velva-Drake-Anamoose-Garrison stayed in the No. 1 slot after a 16-0 win over Valley City. The Aggies received 13 first-place votes and 75 points.
Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm slid up to No. 3 in Division A, swapping with now-No. 4 Dickinson Trinity. Bishop Ryan/Our Redeemer’s remained at No. 5.
