The Devils Lake girls’ golf team continued an upward trend on Thursday.

For the third round and second meet of the season, the Firebirds once again improved upon last year’s results. Eight Devils Lake golfers combined to post a score of +159, which was 19 strokes better than last season’s score in the same meet.

The mark was tied with Fargo South for 10th out of 10 places. West Fargo Sheyenne (+59) won the meet. Devils Lake and Wahpeton (T4, +96) were the only non-Fargo or Grand Forks teams in the competition.

Devils Lake freshman Saige Stafford broke her personal best for the second straight round, with her 121 overall beating Tuesday’s 124.

Mara Hogness and Brynlee Homan each got their first varsity action for the Firebirds. They shot a 125 and 129, respectively.

Camilia Quinonez posted Devils Lake’s best score with a 102 overall. Behind her were Tylie Brodina (110), Abby Troy (112) and Charly Black (119).

Addy Klemetsrud rounded out the Firebirds’ day with a 136 overall.

The team’s next meet is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Aug. 18 at Grand Forks Country Club.
