The Devils Lake girls’ golf team remained in 22nd place out of 23 teams on the second and final day of the East/West Classic.

The Firebirds shot +143 as a team on Tuesday. That brought their total score for the season-opening meet, held in Jamestown, to +280. It was 14 strokes better than the +294 they posted in this event last year. Their score was more than 100 strokes better than last-place Turtle Mountain (+397) and 37 strokes behind 21st-place Bismarck (+243).

West Fargo Sheyenne won the meet with a +46 overall.

Devils Lake’s Charly Black and Saige Stafford each set a personal best on Tuesday. Tylie Brodina posted the Firebirds’ best combined score between the two days.

Black shot a 103 on Tuesday, giving her a 212 for the meet. Her previous best was 109, which she had tied on Monday. She posted the second-best overall score for Devils Lake. Brodina shot a 107, giving her a team-best 202 overall.

Stafford, a freshman, shot a 124 after posting a 132 on Monday. She had a 256 overall in her first varsity meet.

Abby Troy shot a 111 to give her a 219 overall. Camila Quinonez shot a 110 to bring her total to 223.

Freshman Addy Klemetsrud, who shot a 132 on Monday, shot a 132 again on Tuesday to finish with a 264 overall.

The next action for the golf team is an invitational at Bois de Sioux Golf Course in Wahpeton on Thursday at 9 a.m.
