Casia Steinhaus has accomplished something that no other Devils Lake High School student athlete has even attempted.
First of all, she earned an invitation to compete in the 2023 JROTC 3 Position Air Rifle Service Regional Championships held in Camp Perry, Ohio over this past weekend. She competed in one match on Friday and another on Saturday. Her aggregate score over these two matches placed her in the top eight individual competitors in the Army. These top eight then fired ten shots from the standing position with their ten shot aggregate added to their earlier aggregate to determine their final placement.
The shooting athletes with the top five scores earned an invitation to compete in the 2023 JROTC 3 Position Air Rifle Service National Championships to be held over the 23 through the 25 of March 2023 at Camp Perry. Casia placed among those top five after the finals, so she has an invitation to compete in the Nationals. So far as I know, Casia is the only JROTC shooting athlete from the state of North Dakota to ever earn an invitation to compete in JROTC 3 Position Air Rifle Service National Championships.
It is a credit to her determination and incremental effort over many years to attain the skill necessary to achieve this goal.
Casia is a member of the Ramsey County 4H Shooting Sports as well as the Lake Region Shooting Sports Association, and we all wish her the best in her continued effort to compete strongly at the Nationals.
