Lake Region high schools were well-represented at the Class B boys’ golf state tournament this past Tuesday and Wednesday at Jamestown Country Club. Over in the Class A tournament at Vardon Golf Club in Burlington, Braxton Boline represented Devils Lake in the first year of the rejuvenated Firebirds golf program.
In the Class B field, North Star placed sixth out of 21 schools. The Bearcats had a total score of 656 (+80) over the two days — 330 (+42) on Day 1 and 326 (+38) on Day 2. Their top performer was Myles Jorde, who placed 19th out of 161 total contestants. He shot 159 overall and 15 over par, with +8 the first day and +7 the next day.
Tavin Knudson (163, +19) placed 32nd, Hunter Hagler (167, +23) placed 45th, Miles Weber (168, +24) came in 50th and Ian Westlind (171, +27) added a 59th-place finish in a strong team performance for North Star. Eighth-grader Ezra Hausmann was the 161st placer, with a score of 228 (+84) that was 11 strokes behind next-to-last place.
New Rockford-Sheyenne was 17th as a team. The Rockets had a score of 706, 130 over par, between the two days. They were +64 on the first day and +66 on the second.
Jackson Schumacher was the top performer for NR-S, coming in 24th with a score of 160 (+16). Kage Walford (177, +33) came in 83rd. Jax Demester, Shaun Reimche, Bennett Meier and Kason Nass all added places in the 100s.
Nelson County also had two golfers in the tournament. Rider Schmidt tied for 32nd out of the field of 161. He shot 77 (+5) on the first day and finished with a total score of 163 (+19). Jaxson Joramo was the other Charger to compete, finishing 154th.
In the Class A tournament, Boline was the lone representative of Devils Lake. He qualified during the EDC meet. Devils Lake didn’t have a place out of the 12 teams with scores, but Boline came in 79th out of the 101 golfers who competed. He shot 171 (+27) overall — 88 (+16) on Day 1 and 83 (+11) on Day 2.
Boline and Ava Beck made the boys’ and girls’ state tournaments, respectively, in the first year of the Devils Lake golf program’s return.
Oak Grove won the Class B tournament, while Minot North was the A champion. Individual champions were Edgeley/Kulm’s Joseph Kramlich on the B side and Bismarck Century’s Parker Beck for the A.
