Lake Region State College baseball player Lucas Lyons was named to the Mon-Dak All-Conference First Team, the Royals announced Saturday.

Lyons is a freshman from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The left-handed-hitting outfielder batted .295/.450/.473 in 46 games this season. He hit four home runs and drove in 25. He totaled 13 extra base-hits while also stealing 20 bases. His strikeout-to-walk ratio was 42-30.

Lyons mostly led off for the Royals. He helped them go 11-13 in Mon-Dak play, the best in program history and good for fifth place in the conference. LRSC was 14-33 overall and lost in the first round of the Mon-Dak playoffs to Miles Community College.

Lyons was one of 16 freshmen on the roster this past season, all of whom have the eligibility to play one more year for the Royals. He was originally recruited by former head coach Laurence Arango, but performed under first-year head coach Steve Anderson and first-year assistant coach Tucker Salander this spring.

LRSC baseball sophomore Tyler Kleinjan also received some recognition, being named to the Mon-Dak All-Sportsmanship Team. Kleinjan hit .333/.451/.362 over his two years with the Royals, including a .450 OBP this season. He’s set to continue his baseball career at Mayville State University.

“He is the epitome of a competitor and always does it the right way!” the LRSC baseball team wrote on X. “We are proud of you both!”

Earlier this month, LRSC softball’s Maggie Bender was also an All-Conference First Team selection. The sophomore hit .433/.503/.681 this season and .435/.491/.708 over her Royals career. She hit five home runs this season after six last year. She also provided 76 1/3 innings in the circle this spring.

The softball team had one honoree on the All-Sportsmanship Team in sophomore Avery Kamelchuk. She hit .247 with a .362 OBP and two home runs this season.

“As a sophomore, Kamelchuk has been a leader by example for the Royals, helping foster a culture of support, effort, and accountability,” LRSC wrote in a press release. “Kamelchuk’s recognition underscores not only her contributions on the field, but also her role in building a strong and respectful team culture at Lake Region.”

LRSC softball went 10-39 overall this season and 4-19 in conference play. The Royals won a playoff game before losing the next two in the Region 13 Tournament.
