The New Rockford-Sheyenne baseball team walked off Renville County on Monday, splitting a doubleheader to start the 2025 season at 3-2.

The Rockets fell 3-0 to Carrington before winning 4-3 over the Muskrats. Despite a winning record overall, they’re 0-2 in Region 3 play with Monday’s loss to Carrington and last Tuesday’s loss to South Border. The team is coming off of a state tournament appearance in 2024.

Junior Alex Weisenburger gave the Rockets three innings of one-run ball against Carrington, striking out seven. Sophomore Skye Kramlich went the rest of the way, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out six. The Cardinals scored a run in each of the final two innings to lock up the 3-0 win.

NR-S struggled to hit Carrington junior Tate Wolsky, who threw a five-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and no walks. Thomas Allmaras, the Rockets’ sophomore shortstop, had two of the Rockets’ hits out of the leadoff spot.

Kramlich, who threw 54 pitches in the loss, stayed on to start the nightcap against Renville County. He allowed back-to-back hits to start the game, then nearly got out of it before NR-S made back-to-back errors to let two runs score.

Allmaras led off the Rockets’ half of the first with a double, and Kramlich singled him home right away. With two outs, Kramlich stole home to tie it at 2-2 after the first inning.

Renville County retook the lead with another run on an error in the second inning, making all three runs against Kramlich unearned. But the Rockets tied it up again in the third, as senior Bradyn Collier hit a two-out RBI double.

It was 3-3 after three innings, and it remained that way for the rest of regulation.

Kramlich ended up going five innings, allowing just the three unearned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four. He threw 57 pitches (40 strikes). Allmaras relieved him and was perfect. He retired all nine batters he faced, with three strikeouts. His gutsy relief effort set up the eventual walk-off in the bottom of the eighth.

Weisenburger led off the frame with a four-pitch walk, then promptly stole second. Collier was the walk-off hero with an RBI single. It took an extra inning, but the Rockets outlasted the Muskrats to get back in the win column.

After two games on Monday, NR-S jumps right back into it with a home game on Tuesday against LaMoure-Litchville/Marion/Edgeley — a team the Rockets have had some big wins against in football and basketball this school year. The game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in LaMoure. The Rockets then host another doubleheader on Friday, playing South Border and Park River Area starting at noon.
