Elijah Feather Jr. is staying local.

The Warwick senior signed his letter of intent this week to play basketball for Lake Region State College, the Warwick boys’ basketball team announced Monday on Facebook.

Feather Jr. was the Class B, Region 2 Senior Athlete of the Year this season. He also earned an All-State First Team selection.

The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 23 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in his senior year, helping the Warriors advance to the Region 2 tournament. He scored more than 1,000 points in his high school career.

In an exclusive interview with the Devils Lake Journal in February, Feather Jr. said he wanted to play college basketball but had yet to lock down a specific destination. He also indicated he might want to coach someday.

“I knew he was special dating back to third and fourth grade, having a lot of success early on, understanding the game and wanting to play the game,” Warwick head coach Ryan Brown said in February. “The will to want to be here every day, the will to want to show up every day, work hard, get better — and not only get himself better, but get his teammates better — that’s the type of person that Elijah’s been his whole career.”

Feather Jr. joins an LRSC team that went 16-16 this past season. The Royals eventually fell in the Region XIII semifinals.

For next year’s team, they recently added two other North Dakotans: Lance Bradley from Standing Rock and Brennan Johnson from Tioga. North Star alum Dane Hagler is also expected to play basketball for LRSC next season.
