State tournament MVP Aubrey Kenner was named to the Class B Girls’ Basketball All-State Second Team released Tuesday.
Kenner, a junior, surpassed 1,000 career points early this season. She led a Benson County team that went undefeated in region and district play during the regular campaign. The Wildcats eventually won the district tournament, were runners-up at the region tournament, then became champions at the state tournament as the No. 4 seed.
It was the first state championship for Benson County since 1987.
Kenner averaged 19.9 points per game to go along with three rebounds per game. She added 4.5 assists and 4.0 steals per contest. She shot 44% from the floor and 72.6% from the free throw line.
Kenner was an all-region and all-state tournament selection. She also won MVP of the Lake Region Girls’ Invitational back in December, and was crowned state tournament MVP to cap a historic season for Benson County. The team is coached by her dad, Bryan Kenner. He was named the Region 2 Coach of the Year.
Nearly all of the Wildcats’ players will be back next season, with the team only losing one senior.
The NDAPSSA picked five players for each of the First Team and Second Team. Joining Kenner on the Second Team were Mashae Miller from the state runner-up Kenmare/Bowbells, Central McLean’s Morgan Snyder, Maple River’s Violet Richman and Bowman County’s Sophia Headley.
