High school basketball returns to Devils Lake this week.
Eight teams will compete in the Lake Region Invitational Girls’ Basketball Tournament this week from Dec. 5-7. Seven squads from Class B will play alongside Devils Lake’s junior varsity team.
Four of the teams come from Region 2, District 4: Benson County, Nelson County, Larimore and Griggs/Midkota. District 3 is represented by North Star and Park River/Fordville-Lankin, while Dunseith comes from Region 3. Devils Lake JV is a step below the championship-winning Class A team from last year, but will share a few of the varsity team’s younger players.
The season-opening tournament is complete with a consolation bracket and competitions for third, fifth and seventh place.
All action will take place at the Devils Lake Sports Center. Benson County opens play against Larimore on Thursday at 3 p.m. Nelson County and North Star will follow with a Lake Region faceoff at approximately 4:30 p.m. The winners play each other in the semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m.
On the other side of the bracket, Devils Lake JV plays its first game against Dunseith at 6 p.m. Then PR/F-L faces G/M in the fourth and final game of the day. The winners of those two games will play each other at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, following the other semifinal game.
The tournament final is scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. It’s the final of four games on the day, following the consolation games, which begin with the seventh-place game at 11 a.m.
The full bracket is posted on North Star Public Schools’ Facebook page.
