The first season of the revamped Devils Lake girls’ golf program has just about come to a close.

The Firebirds competed in their final meet as a team on Monday with the EDC competition at Bois de Sioux Golf Course in Wahpeton. The season started back in early August, mere days after American Legion Baseball ended. While it was a transition for Devils Lake, especially competing amongst a slew of Fargo and Grand Forks area schools, the players showed steady improvement throughout the campaign.

At the meet, Devils Lake came in 10th out of 12 teams with a score of +132. For the first time, somebody not named Ava Beck or Tylie Brodina posted the best individual score for the Firebirds. The leader this time was Camila Quinonez, who shot a 100 — her best score of the season.

Beck was narrowly behind her with a 101, and Abby Troy not far behind her with a 103. The score was also Troy’s best of the season.

Brodina and Jackie Juarez each shot a 112, while Charly Black posted a 115.

The season is over for all the players but Beck, who qualified for state with a score of 84 on Sept. 3. It was easily her best of the season, though she broke 100 several times. Beck, a sophomore, will be traveling to Mandan to compete in the state tournament that takes place from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1. The tournament will be held at Prairie West Golf Course.
