After finishing the first round of the Wahpeton Invitational in 10th out of 11 places, Devils Lake golf wrapped up the meet in last place on Friday.
The Firebirds were narrowly ahead of Grand Forks Central on Thursday, +178 to +181. By the end of the second round, Devils Lake posted an ultimate score of +363, while Grand Forks Central had a +352 mark.
West Fargo Sheyenne won with a +89.
After the first day, Ava Beck was three strokes behind Tylie Brodina for Devils Lake’s best score. By the end of the invitational, she posted the best score among the Firebirds, which she’s done now in all three meets of the season thus far. After a 115 on Thursday, Beck posted a 108 on Friday for a total score of 223.
Brodina posted a 119 on Friday after a 112 on Thursday, for a total of 231.
Next in line was Camila Quinonez, who posted a 118 on both days for a combined score of 236. Jackie Juarez (117 + 124 = 241) was fourth among the Firebirds, while Brianna Edwardson (155 + 159 = 314) placed fifth for Devils Lake in her debut.
The Firebirds have already competed in three invitationals, comprising of five separate days of golf, in their inaugural season of the program. This busy early-season stretch will finally come to a brief conclusion after Monday, with an invitational in Grand Forks. The next meet after that isn’t for another nine days.
