Parker Brodina has been racking up the awards lately.
On Monday, the incoming Devils Lake senior was named to Prep Hoops’ All-Dakotas Team. Then on Thursday, he was named to the All-America Sixth Team. This comes in the wake of his last AAU basketball season, playing for the 17U ECI Prospects.
The All-Dakotas Team was filled out by five others: Mason Klabo (D1 Minnesota), Parker Falcon (ND Phenom), Griffen Goodbary (Team Warwick), Markus Talley (SSA Black) and Easton Neuendorf (Hoop City).
Klabo, from Fargo Davies, was also named to the All-America First Team. He’s considered the top basketball talent in all of North Dakota. Klabo has received multiple Division I offers.
Besides Klabo, Falcon was the only North Dakota kid listed above Brodina on the All-America teams. He was part of the Fourth Team. Falcon plays for Bismarck Legacy and is committed to continue his career at Minot State University.
The Sixth Team, along with Brodina, included Luke Lindeman (Indiana), Michael Wellman (Indiana), Brandon Ingram (Ohio) and Adam Hubbard (Arizona).
Brodina previously announced that he received an offer to play basketball at Valley City State University. He’s coming off an impressive junior season where he averaged 14.1 points per game and helped Devils Lake end a 99-year state championship drought.
Brodina also had one of his Devils Lake teammates, Joel Nelson, on the ECI team with him. Nelson, younger brother of Alabama star Grant Nelson, is an incoming senior and was one of the starters on the Firebirds last season.
Brodina’s strong performance this summer bodes well for the upcoming Devils Lake basketball team, which loses its state tournament MVP and Mr. Basketball nominee, Wylee Delorme. Brodina was still a strong second-best on the team behind Delorme, and if his summer accolades suggest anything, it’s that he’s only gotten better. Brodina and Nelson will be both key leaders and point scorers as the Firebirds try to defend their title.
Brodina was also a solid hitter and pitcher on the Devils Lake spring and summer baseball teams. His older brother, Beau — who was a starter on the basketball and baseball teams as well — is continuing his baseball career at Lake Region State College this season.
The Firebirds’ basketball team is coached by the Brodinas’ dad, Dustin. He led Devils Lake to a championship in just his third year of coaching the team.
