Lake Region State College baseball coach Laurence Arango is no longer with the program, per the school.
LRSC said in a statement that Arango “has left employment with Lake Region State College effective June 4th.” Royals athletic director Jared Marshall said the search for a new baseball coach is already underway. No additional details on the reason for Arango’s departure have been reported.
In a preset email reply to anyone who sends Arango a message, the school wrote that “Laurence was a valuable member of our team, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Arango only coached the LRSC baseball team for one season. He was announced as the new head coach less than a year ago, on June 28, 2023.
He came to Devils Lake having coached and played baseball in the New England area. Most recently, he had been coaching a Babe Ruth League team in his hometown of Stamford, Conn. He also served as an associate scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 1996 to 1998.
The Royals went 10-32 in Arango’s tenure, including a 4-22 conference record. They finished last in the Mon-Dak Athletic Conference and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Miles Community College.
Arango had already begun building a recruiting class for next season before his sudden departure. Most notably, he’d added a pair of successful local athletes — Devils Lake’s Beau Brodina and North Star’s Parker Simon — to the baseball program.
Brodina officially signed with the Royals on May 9, less than a month before Arango and the school parted ways. Arango was in attendance at the Devils Lake Sports Center that day to pose for pictures.
LRSC is now on the lookout for a coach to fill Arango’s place.
