The Devils Lake boys’ and girls’ track and field squads competed in the EDC Indoor Meet on Saturday. While the boys placed eighth out of nine teams and the girls finished seventh out of eight, numerous individual athletes set personal records. The Firebirds had particular success in the relay events — especially Sara Kraft, Aubrie Lebrun, Bella Tangedal and Ella Wass, who set a school record in the 4×400.
The 4:19.87 time earned them fourth place out of 11 teams in the event. Wass and Lebrun also paired alongside Gabrielle McLaurin and Tenley Triepke in the 4×800 and came in fourth place. Kraft and Tangedal, meanwhile, combined forces with Trinity Kus and Raeleigh Myklebust to finish fifth out of 11 teams in the 4×200.
Kraft also came in third out of 16 contestants in the triple jump. The girls finished with a score of 23 overall, ahead of Grand Forks Central’s 6.5 and just behind Fargo North’s 26.5. Davies won with 194.
On the boys’ side, Adam Sobolik, Rylan Day, Zane Bennett and Gerardo Sanchez placed fifth in the 4×800. Bennett came in eighth in the 1600-meter and fifth in the pole vault. Oliver Wirth placed fourth in the high jump. Sanchez, Bennett, Day and Sobolik (same quartet, different order) also finished eighth in the 4×400.
The boys had a score of 17 overall, ahead of Valley City’s 16. Red River won the boys’ competition with a score of 146.5.
