No. 4 Devils Lake girls’ basketball held off a mid-game comeback bid by Carrington on Tuesday, winning 54-39 in the semifinals of the Region 2 tournament at Mayville State University.
The win advanced the Firebirds to the Region 2 final against No. 1 Thompson. The Tommies beat Four Winds/Minnewaukan, 54-34. The Indians aren’t done yet; they’ll battle Carrington on Thursday for third place. The winner goes to a state qualifier game.
Highlights
Tylie Brodina’s 17 points led the Firebirds’ win on Tuesday, which got their postseason off to a strong start. They had a bump in the middle, but started and finished strong to hold off Carrington. For more on this game, read here.
The Indians battled towards the end of their contest, but couldn’t hold off a Thompson team that’s now won all 21 of its games this season.
No. 1 Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich and No. 2 May-Port-C-G both won their games in the Division B, Region 2 tournament in Devils Lake. They advanced to the Region 2 final, where they’ll play each other on Thursday.

What to watch
The Lake Region State College basketball teams play their final home games of the regular season Wednesday evening. They’ll face Dawson Community College, starting with the women’s team at 6:30 p.m. Each team has just one road game remaining in the regular season after this.
High school basketball tournament play will resume on Thursday. The girls’ hockey state tournament also begins Thursday, with Devils Lake set for a 5 p.m. game against Fargo North/South at Scheels Arena in Fargo.
