The Division A, Region 2 girls’ basketball will kick off at Mayville State University on Monday.
First, the No. 4 and 5 seeds will face off at 5:30 p.m. — Four Winds/Minnewaukan and Grafton. The No. 3 and 6 seeds, Carrington and Hillsboro/Central Valley, will play approximately 20 minutes later.
On Tuesday, the No. 1 team in Division A, Thompson, will face the winner of the first game. Then No. 4 Devils Lake will play the winner of the second game. The winner of those games will compete in the final on Thursday, while the losers will battle for third place on Thursday. The winner of the third-place game and the loser of the final will each go to a state qualifier game on Saturday with a chance to go to the state tournament.
Highlights
The Lake Region State College women’s basketball team won its 15th of its last 19 games on Sunday. The men’s team, meanwhile, lost another close game. The regular season is winding down for the Royals, though they have playoffs coming up.
Brady Stein was recently named the new full-time head coach of the LRSC men’s hockey team. Stein had already been serving as the interim head coach.

What to watch
It’s a big day for the lady Indians, who will try to keep their season alive at 5:30 p.m. Devils Lake fans will have to wait until Tuesday to get their tournament excitement going.
It’s a big week in general, with the girls’ basketball tournament getting going and the girls’ hockey tournament coming up as well. Devils Lake is set for its first state tournament game on Thursday at Scheels Arena. For boys’ basketball, it’s the last full week of the regular season.
The weekly basketball polls will be released Monday. The Devils Lake boys may fall from their No. 2 spot after losing to No. 4 Grafton last week, despite a strong bounceback performance against Wahpeton. It’s incredibly tight between Devils Lake, Grafton and No. 3 Four Winds/Minnewaukan.
