The Four Winds/Minnewaukan girls’ basketball game against Oak Grove, previously scheduled for Thursday evening, was postponed to next Thursday — which will also be its Senior Night.
The Indians are looking to bounce back from a loss to No. 5 Devils Lake. They still have a game scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. against Carrington. These will be their final two games of the regular season, both at Four Winds High School.
Highlights
Two of No. 2 Devils Lake boys’ basketball’s biggest foes — No. 1 Kindred and No. 4 Grafton — each took home a victory on Thursday, though both wins were close.
Kindred (17-0, 7-0) beat out-of-state opponent Fergus Falls Hillcrest (16-3, 12-0) by a score of 49-41. The Firebirds (15-1, 5-1) are still chasing the Vikings and their undefeated record.
Grafton played the fourth-place team in Region 2, Thompson, and only narrowly won, 73-69. The Spoilers, remember, are the team that nearly beat Devils Lake in a 68-66 thriller on Jan. 11. The Tommies are merely 8-8 on the season. An upset could have sunk Grafton in the rankings, or at least dropped it to the No. 5 spot. The Firebirds have a rematch with the Spoilers scheduled for this upcoming Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Grafton.
Devils Lake wrestling has a big weekend ahead, as it kicks off the EDC State Qualifying Tournament on Friday. Both the boys and girls will be competing.
Lake Region State College has inked some signings recently. The baseball program signed Cody Chapman, a pitcher from Spearfish, South Dakota. The women’s basketball program added two more Australians to its roster: Lara Dobbins and Grace Kent. Head coach Ryan Clark is an Australia native, as are three of the team’s current players — including Kelsey Crossan, who’s going on to a Division 1 school next year. The women’s basketball program is building a bit of an Australian tradition.
