The Lake Region State College basketball teams played on the road against Williston State College on Wednesday and split their two games. In a different fashion than usual, the women lost and the men won.

Highlights

The LRSC men’s team, which has grinded through a tough season, now has a two-game winning streak going after its 84-83 defeat of WSC on Wednesday. It got the Royals out of last place in the Mon-Dak Athletic Conference. The women, meanwhile, couldn’t repeat their previous heroics against the first-place Tetons. Three Devils Lake seniors — Hudson Hodous, Reggie Cavanaugh and Drew Hofstad — signed their letters of intent to play college football on Wednesday. Check out this Twitter thread for some pictures of the event, and stay tuned to Tuesday’s edition of the Journal for more on the story.

What to watch

Benson County and New Rockford-Sheyenne boys’ basketball each have home games on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Wildcats play Larimore, while the Rockets play Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich. The Wildcats and Rockets currently own the No. 3 and 4 seeds respectively in Division B, Region 2, District 4.

It’ll otherwise be a relatively quiet finish to the week, which feels fitting after Devils Lake’s intense matchups against Four Winds/Minnewaukan on Monday and Tuesday. The Firebird girls will be back in action on the road Friday against Central Cass though, and the boys’ hockey team has a big play-in game in Devils Lake on Saturday.
