The No. 2 Devils Lake boys’ basketball team has now won 12 straight after a pandemonic victory over No. 3 Four Winds/Minnewaukan Tuesday evening. The Firebirds got their revenge and maintained a winning streak that started on Dec. 22.
As head coach Dustin Brodina said, the Firebirds are in the driver’s seat now, and the rest of the season is about capitalizing on it. They have four more games before the East Region Tournament, including a rematch with No. 4 Grafton. They’re still in contention with the No. 1 seed, though they’d need to pass undefeated Kindred.
Highlights
The Firebirds beat the Indians 70-69, led by 18 points from Parker Brodina. For more on the intense back-and-forth affair, read here.
Devils Lake girls’ hockey also won at home on Tuesday, on its Senior Night no less. The Firebirds beat Grand Forks 4-2 and jumped from seventh to sixth place in the conference. Ashlyn Abrahamson continued her state-best season with three more goals, while Siri Olson also scored. Delaney Parker had 41 saves at the net. Devils Lake is solidifying its chances of making it to the state tournament that begins Feb. 22 at Scheels Arena, where the top eight seeds get in.
Devils Lake boys’ hockey lost on the road to Fargo North, 5-3. The Firebirds are 7-13-1 (4-12) and sit in eighth place in the conference. With their regular-season schedule now complete, they’re set for a play-in game against Grafton/Park River at 1 p.m. in Devils Lake on Saturday. A win would advance them to a quarterfinal matchup against No. 1 Grand Forks Red River on Tuesday.
Wednesday is also National Signing Day for college football. Three Devils Lake seniors will be signing their letters of intent at 1:30 p.m.
